How our solar panels are helping us be more sustainable

When we ploughed ahead with building our new production facility in the midst of the pandemic (slightly crazy we know), one of the key factors in our decision making process throughout was the importance of long term sustainability.

As part of this it was a no-brainer that we would have solar panels fitted on our expanse of roof, and we’re so glad we did.  They work perfectly supporting our cold stores’ increased energy requirements during the summer months, have saved us from the worst of the increased energy costs, and have improved our sustainability as we lower our environmental impact.

So far this year we have produced 23.7 Megawatts of electricity.  This means we are now producing approximately 50% of our energy directly (outside the winter months).  In addition, we also ensure that the electricity we import from the grid is all from renewable sources.

By investing in new highly insulated energy efficient cold stores and air source heat pumps with heat recovery for heating and cooling  we have been able to scale up our facilities minimising additional energy requirements and improving the ventilated workplace for our team.

Whilst there’s always ways to improve, we are so pleased to have made important gains in our energy supply and efficiency.
